PACE ACADEMY GLOBAL OUTREACH DAY 4

Day_4 I am having way too much fun on this trip. Our morning began with an unexpected visit from a flock of peacocks, two of them male. The colors were gorgeous and I especially enjoyed chasing them around with my camera. The owner even brought out bread for us to feed the birds with, and after a little bit of persuasion, the peacocks came and would eat right out of our hands. It was also quite amusing to watch Hurst struggle after Tammy, the lodge’s Great Dane, flopped onto his legs. We continued our “luxurious hike”, with a little more hike than I think we all expected. After yesterdays seemingly endless climb, we were looking forward to flat and downhill all day. The guides obviously lied, as we soon found out. It was not however, as unbearable as yesterday seemed, and the view of the waves was absolutely incredible. It was of course also nice to be met by a picnic, complete with coffee for Mr. Coale halfway. The last part of the hike was different for everyone; half the group trailed what seemed like miles behind, while half sprinted to the end. I, being part of the latter group, enjoyed the bragging rights of arriving before the car carrying our bags. I think I speak for everyone when I say the Fernery is the favorite of the three lodges, with its flat screen tvs, hot tub and volleyball court. But as much as I have enjoyed being pampered these past few days, I am definitely looking forward to returning to work in the townships in Port Elizabeth.
